A former sailor, Captain Kostas Prassinos couldn’t bear to watch the sea and not be in its embrace.
In 1973 he sets up the Saint Nicholas, a seaworthy wooden boat.

One year later, he replaces it with the Kira Sofia, an equally seaworthy wooden craft.
So Captain Kostas officially becomes the Koufonissi ferryman.
He ferries supplies, visitors and the islanders to the island from the ships that cannot dock at the harbour due to the lack of infrastructure, and from the coast of Naxos and the surrounding small islands of the Mikres Kyklades.

The most important service provided was the transportation of patients, even under adverse weather conditions, from Koufonissi and the surrounding islands to Naxos where there was a medical facility.
Nowadays the term Captain Kostas’ boat actually refers to more than one boats belonging to the Prasinos family.

In the summer months, May to end of September, Prasinos Boat Tours provides transport services to the visitors of the island to the beaches of Pano and Kato Koufonissi every hour on the hour from 10.00am
The boat ticket is valid for the whole day.
